In the past decade, the mining industry has undergone a rapid digital transformation, driven by the need to optimize operations, boost efficiency, and ensure safety in a demanding environment. However, these advancements have also brought new vulnerabilities and risks, particularly in cybersecurity. It was within this dynamic and complex landscape that the urgent need to safeguard critical infrastructure and maintain operational continuity in the mining sector became clear.
This is how the Mining Cybersecurity Corporation (CCMIN) came to life.
The idea of establishing CCMIN emerged after a series of major cyberattacks significantly disrupted mining operations worldwide. These events highlighted the critical importance of creating a pioneering organization in the Americas, exclusively focused on cybersecurity for a sector so essential to the global economy.
In response to these challenges, a group of mining companies, including Antofagasta Minerals, Anglo American, BHP, Codelco, and Collahuasi, alongside the broader mining industry, cybersecurity experts, and representatives from various sectors, joined forces to establish CCMIN in late 2023. The corporation was founded as a nonprofit organization with a clear mission: to protect the mining sector from cyber threats, foster collaboration among stakeholders, and promote a secure digital environment.
Since its inception, CCMIN has experienced steady growth, expanding its collaborative networks and strengthening its influence both locally and internationally.
Our mission is to coordinate the mining industry’s efforts to protect against threats targeting its cybersecurity. Our vision is to foster and promote a cyber-secure and resilient mining sector through collaboration with the industry.
We act with honesty and transparency in all our relationships, maintaining the highest personal and professional standards, and promoting fair and equitable competition in the mining industry.
We continuously seek to improve, respecting the rules of fair competition and promoting innovation in the mining sector.
We maintain our commitment to staying up-to-date and competing ethically in a free competition environment.
