of today's ecosystem.
In the last decade, the mining industry has undergone a meteoric digital transformation, driven by the need to optimize operations, improve efficiency, and ensure safety in a challenging operational environment. However, alongside these advances, new vulnerabilities and risks emerged, particularly in cybersecurity. It was in this dynamic and complex environment that the urgent need to protect critical infrastructure and ensure operational continuity in the mining sector was recognized.
This is how the Mining Cybersecurity Corporation (CCMIN) came to life.
The idea of creating CCMIN began to take shape following a series of significant cyberattacks in the sector, which severely impacted several mining operations around the world. These events underscored the importance of having a pioneering entity — unique in the world and dedicated exclusively to cybersecurity in a sector so crucial to the global economy.
In response to these challenges, a group of mining companies — including Antofagasta Minerals, Anglo American, BHP, Codelco, and Collahuasi — together with cybersecurity experts and representatives from various sectors, joined forces to form CCMIN during 2023 and 2024. The corporation was established as a non-profit organization with the firm purpose of protecting the mining sector from cyber threats, fostering collaboration among stakeholders, and promoting a secure digital environment.
Since its founding, its growth has been steady, expanding its collaboration networks and strengthening its capabilities and influence at both the local and international level.
Our mission is to coordinate the mining industry’s efforts to protect against threats targeting its cybersecurity. Our vision is to foster and promote a cyber-secure and resilient mining sector through collaboration with the industry.
